Is there anything more infuriating that watching a soccer match – please note that I only refer to the world game as soccer to prevent any confusion with the AFL and its stranglehold on the moniker in this country – and seeing a clear goal disallowed or given when replays show otherwise? (Well actually, yes, there are plenty more infuriating things in life but refereeing errors are right up there.)
FIFA is considering the introduction of ‘goalline technology’ to ensure that such mistakes are eradicated from the game and this got me thinking about what this might mean for the game. Sure, more accurate decisions will most likely result but what happens if players take the idea a little to literally?
